How it Works

The SIP calculator uses the following parameters:

  • Investment Amount: The amount you invest weekly
  • Expected Return Rate: Annual expected return rate on your investment
  • Time Period: Investment duration in years

SIP Formula

FV = P × ((1 + r)^n - 1) × (1 + r)/r

Where:
FV = Future Value
P = Investment Amount
r = Interest Rate per payment period
n = Total Number of Payments

Benefits of SIP

  • Disciplined investing through regular contributions
  • Benefit from rupee cost averaging
  • Power of compounding over long-term
  • Lower risk through systematic investing
  • Flexibility to start with small amounts

Weekly SIP FAQs

How does a Weekly SIP work?
A Weekly SIP debits a fixed amount on a chosen weekday, buying units at that day's NAV — roughly 52 instalments a year against 12 for a Monthly SIP. Growth still comes from NAV appreciation, not from any weekly compounding.
Is a Weekly SIP better than a Monthly SIP?
Slightly smoother averaging in volatile markets, but the long-run difference in final corpus is well under 1%. A Weekly SIP suits people paid weekly or with irregular cash flow; salaried investors are usually better served by a Monthly SIP dated just after payday.
How many capital gains lots does a Weekly SIP create?
About 52 a year, so a 10-year Weekly SIP leaves roughly 520 lots to track for LTCG and STCG at redemption. Each lot has its own 12-month clock for equity long-term treatment.
What is the minimum amount for a Weekly SIP?
Typically Rs 100 to Rs 500 per week, with a minimum of six to twelve instalments depending on the fund house. You usually pick a fixed weekday — most AMCs offer Monday to Friday — and the debit repeats on that day. Confirm the minimum in the scheme information document, since a few schemes that show a weekly option on aggregator apps still enforce a higher AMC-level minimum at registration.
What happens if my Weekly SIP day is a bank holiday?
The debit and the unit allotment shift to the next working day, at that day's NAV. Nothing is skipped and there is no penalty. Over a year you get about 50 to 52 instalments rather than a clean 52. If the bank rejects a debit for insufficient funds, most AMCs let three consecutive failures pass before cancelling the SIP, so keep a small buffer in the account on the chosen weekday.
Does a Weekly SIP in ELSS lock in each instalment separately?
Yes, and this catches people out. Every ELSS purchase carries its own three-year lock-in from its own allotment date, so a weekly ELSS SIP creates about 52 separately locked lots a year. The last instalment of a year is free only three years after that date, not three years after you started. If you want a clean lock-in exit, a lumpsum or a monthly ELSS SIP is far easier to track.
