How it Works

The SIP calculator uses the following parameters:

  • Investment Amount: The amount you invest quarterly
  • Expected Return Rate: Annual expected return rate on your investment
  • Time Period: Investment duration in years

SIP Formula

FV = P × ((1 + r)^n - 1) × (1 + r)/r

Where:
FV = Future Value
P = Investment Amount
r = Interest Rate per payment period
n = Total Number of Payments

Benefits of SIP

  • Disciplined investing through regular contributions
  • Benefit from rupee cost averaging
  • Power of compounding over long-term
  • Lower risk through systematic investing
  • Flexibility to start with small amounts

Quarterly SIP FAQs

How does a Quarterly SIP work?
A Quarterly SIP invests a fixed amount once every three months — four instalments a year. It suits bonus-linked, rental or business income that arrives in lumps rather than monthly.
Is a Quarterly SIP worse than a Monthly SIP for the same annual amount?
Marginally, on two counts: money sits idle in your bank between instalments instead of compounding, and you average across only 4 NAVs a year rather than 12. Over 15 years at 12%, investing ₹36,000 quarterly ends slightly below ₹12,000 monthly.
Who should choose a Quarterly SIP?
Freelancers and business owners billing quarterly, and anyone whose income is seasonal. It is also a sensible way to deploy a quarterly bonus or dividend without letting it sit in a savings account.
What is the minimum amount for a Quarterly SIP?
Most AMCs set the quarterly minimum at Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per instalment, with at least four instalments, which is a full year. Because the amount hits in one go, the bank balance needs to be ready on the chosen date. The quarterly option is common in debt and hybrid schemes and in plans meant for people with lumpy income such as consultants and farmers.
What happens if my Quarterly SIP date falls on a holiday?
The debit and purchase move to the next working day at that day's NAV. With only four instalments a year, a single shifted date has a slightly larger effect on your average cost than it would in a monthly SIP, but it still washes out over a long horizon. A failed debit matters more here too — missing one quarterly instalment is the same as missing three monthly ones.
How does a Quarterly SIP make capital gains reporting easier?
It creates four purchase lots a year instead of twelve. On redemption, units are sold on a first-in-first-out basis and each lot has its own holding period and cost, so fewer lots means a much shorter Schedule 112A or Schedule CG to fill. Over ten years a quarterly SIP leaves 40 lots against 120 for monthly. The AMC's capital gains statement does the arithmetic either way, but reconciling it is simpler.
