How it Works
The SIP calculator uses the following parameters:
- Investment Amount: The amount you invest daily
- Expected Return Rate: Annual expected return rate on your investment
- Time Period: Investment duration in years
SIP Formula
FV = P × ((1 + r)^n - 1) × (1 + r)/r
Where:
FV = Future Value
P = Investment Amount
r = Interest Rate per payment period
n = Total Number of Payments
Benefits of SIP
- Disciplined investing through regular contributions
- Benefit from rupee cost averaging
- Power of compounding over long-term
- Lower risk through systematic investing
- Flexibility to start with small amounts
Daily SIP FAQs
How does a Daily SIP work and does it compound daily?
A Daily SIP debits a fixed amount every business day and buys units at that day's NAV. The compounding is not daily — it comes from the fund's NAV growth. The benefit is finer rupee-cost averaging across roughly 250 NAVs a year instead of 12.
Is a Daily SIP better than a Monthly SIP in India?
Over long horizons the difference is marginal — typically under 1% in final corpus — because equity markets trend upward and averaging advantages wash out. A Monthly SIP is easier to reconcile and generates far fewer capital-gains lots at redemption.
Does a Daily SIP create tax and paperwork problems?
Yes, that is its real cost. Each daily instalment is a separate purchase lot with its own holding period and ELSS lock-in. A three-year Daily SIP creates about 750 lots to track for LTCG/STCG, against 36 for a Monthly SIP.
What is the minimum amount for a Daily SIP?
Most fund houses that offer a daily frequency set the minimum at Rs 100 or Rs 500 per day, with a minimum of about 30 to 60 instalments. Not every scheme allows daily — it is usually restricted to large index funds, liquid funds and a handful of flexi-cap schemes. Check the scheme information document rather than the app, since the app may show the frequency while the AMC's own minimum blocks the registration.
What happens to a Daily SIP on weekends and bank holidays?
Nothing is debited on a non-working day. The instalment simply moves to the next working day at that day's NAV, so a normal month gives you about 20 to 22 purchases rather than 30. Long stretches such as Diwali or a stock exchange trading holiday cluster several instalments together. This does not cost you anything, but it means your actual number of instalments will not match a simple days-in-the-period count.
Does investing daily actually earn more than investing monthly?
Barely. Over a long horizon the difference between daily and monthly investing of the same annual amount is typically under 1% of the final corpus, because the averaging benefit is already captured by the monthly rhythm. What you do get is roughly 250 purchase lots a year instead of 12, which makes redemption FIFO tracking and capital gains reporting far heavier. For most people, monthly remains the sensible default.
